Legislators invited to attend Aug. 17-18 meeting to discuss future of policies, investments to protect Great Lakes water quality
The 2021 Annual Meeting of the Great Lakes-St. Lawrence Legislative Caucus Task Force on Nutrient Management will be held Aug. 17-18 at the Maumee Bay Lodge and Conference Center in Oregon, Ohio. At this meeting, participants will learn explore strategies to improve agricultural practices and protect the water of the Great Lakes and its tributaries.
The invitation and registration form can be found below. You also can visit https://csgmidwest.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/2021-TFNM-Maumee-Bay-Meeting-Invite.pdf.
Topics of discussion will include: a look at funds available for states via existing programs of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the potential for new opportunities under infrastructure legislation now under consideration by the U.S. Congress, and the Great Lakes Commission’s Blue Accounting program. Most important is the networking that will occur as legislators from the eight states and two provinces share information on legislative efforts on nutrient management and water quality in their respective jurisdictions.
To provide time for travel, the meeting will begin at 1 p.m. Eastern Time on Tuesday, Aug. 17, and end at 1 p.m. Eastern Time on Wednesday, Aug. 18.
The site of the upcoming task force meeting is Maumee Bay Lodge, which sits on Lake Erie. Participants will have the chance to see firsthand some of the recent projects that Ohio has undertaken and funded to protect Lake Erie.
Members of the task force will have their travel and on-site expenses covered; in return, they are expected to participate by sharing nutrient management efforts in their home states and provinces.
